CWTU

Aww! These look like cute little old ladies, right? Sure they are! But these women were part of the WCTU (Women's Christian Temperance Union). We were talking about them in Social Studies while taking notes the 29 Amendments. I thought that this was pretty interesting!

Back in the day...alcohol was sold everywhere, even in like barbershops. People could get drunk anywhere they went. These ladies hated it, so they made quite a statement. They would walk into wherever the beer, gin, whiskey, or whatever was sold with their little Bibles and axes and just smash everything to bits, singing hymns all the way. They would get arrested and then be bailed out of jail by their husbands and the towns people who felt sorry for them. And then, of course, they would go and do it again.

Then an amendment was made that no alcohol was to be sold. Or maybe it was before. (Shows how much I need to study) This was called the Prohibition Prohit amendment. A few years later, late 20s or early 30s, they allowed alcohol to be sold again.

Pretty interesting stuff, huh? Well if those ladies felt that they were doing a work for God, I don't think that's exactly what they did. But, either way, it makes for some pretty interesting 2nd period classes!!
