Secular...IDK!

Yesterday, Audrey and I were talking about our past as little kids. Somehow, the topic of music came up. Brittant Spears (in her early, modest days) Christina Aguilera, N*Sync, Hanson, and the Backstreet Boys came up. That's when all of that popishy, bubble gum music was big. We talked about our favorite group: S Club 7. They were a bunch of British people with 4 girls and 3 guys. I still remember almost all of the lyrics to their songs. They even had their own tv show on the then Fox Family. Yea, that made them ever cooler. Anyways, we found the old cd and poped it into the cd player. #3 is my favorite. It's been in my head all day! The chords are awesome. It's called "Where I Want To Be". It's some love song...

But listening to it, the lyrics can apply to the Christian life!

"I'll keep waiting 'til that day when you come back on home to me. Life's too short to live without you. Where you are is where I want to be"
I mean, I know I'm waiting for that day when Jesus will come out of Heaven and into the clouds to take me up to Heaven. We never know when our lives will end and so we need to trust in the Lord as our Savior. And where Jesus is, Heaven, that's where I want to be, too!
Also, I realize people listen to Christian artists, like Relient K, Switchfoot, and a bunch of others and think of the lyrics as secualr. And in some sense they are. They attract listeners because both bands rock! Like Relient K's music video Be My Escape shows like a bazillion shots of some girl looking sad and stuff in picture frames. And the one for Who I Am Hates Who I've Been shows some girl walkng down the street. Even the titles of the songs will make Christians know that the song is about God. Maybe they do it to draw in their fans to their concerts to then hear the gospel. IDK, I've never been to these people's concerts before. I mean, I don't think this is terribly bad or anything, just interesting.
You guys can comment on your input. It'd be appreciated!! :0)

Interesting thoughts, Liz.

I think secular things can have spiritual application. Not just music, but movies, too. Lion King, Field of Dreams, and many others can have Christian application if you think about it.

I've heard of Relient K and Switchfoot, but I've never listened to their music. It's good to attract non-Christians with "secular" themes, lyrics, and videos, so long as you get to the point. Hopefully they do clearly share the Gospel at concerts and such. Many bands and churches never stop beating around the bush and just get to the Gospel ... they just stay metaphorical or philosophical. That might attract listeners, but it won't really help them in the end. Example, 95.5 (blblblblp) the Fish -- great station, great music, but they hardly ever (never?) talk about Christ. It's "safe for the whole family" and things like that. That's nice, but it doesn't count unless you get to the point!

I guess I should get my own blog, huh? Have a great day!
